Presentation Night at the Pub

Just like our golf rounds in the tournament, it was hot, humid and threatening rain but luckily for us the rain held off till after the event. There was plenty to eat for all at the Bar-B-Q after which the following presentation was made to the winners of the 2008 tournament.

Club Champion & Winner Presidents Cup was Dao Viraya with some very impressive results:
Best Two Individual Rounds net 65 at Maejo net 68 at Lanna
Best 4 game total 284 & Best 3 game total 208, both by 10 strokes
Best Stableford by 15 points & Best in C grade by 19 points.

Stableford Winner and overall runner-up was last years winner Kieran Savage with a 3 game total of 104 stableford points.

A Grade was a tie between Jack Cooper, Shaun Stewart and Guy Merrett with 99 points each. We only had one trophy so it was necessary to go back through the game scores:
Stableford 4 game totals – Jack Shaun tied 127 points Guy 122
Net 3 game totals – Jack & Guy still tied on 225 with Shaun on 229
So we had to go to Net 4 game totals - Jack 306, Shaun & Guy 312.
This years winner of A Grade went to Jack Cooper and the consulation prizes to Shaun & Guy.

B Grade Winner 102 points Roger Mack

C Grade Winner 100 points Ian Mackay

Nearest the Pins:
Lanna - Jack Cooper & Shaun Stewart
Maejo - Garry Walker & Keith Taylor
Royal - Christian Friis & Roger Mack
Green Valley – Guy Merrett & Dan Evans/Graham Best

There was also a prize for the most improved golfer of the year presented by Joi from Nr 1 Pub and Kim Gillies of 2000baht which went to Yung Beece because he had managed to lower his handicap by 10 strokes over the course of the year.

Winners of the Raffle were Ree for the ladies prize and Alex for the mens prize.

A big vote of thanks was given to those who helped organize the event and also to those who assisted throughout the year and to Joi from Nr 1 Pub for her sponsorship of the club. Well done everyone concerned.

Green Valley 21 Aug 08 Round 4

Once again overcast conditions but with some blue sky and fortunately no rain. Green Valley though appears to be extremely popular with tourists though and the course was absolutely crowded. We were hopeful that once we tee-ed off things would get moving but sadly this was not the case and it was a slow, slow round. A good course in good condition at the right price but I am afraid that it will be some time before many of us give it another go. There were 24 golfers in this round of the Annual Tournament with a few extras in Craig Morriss and Bill Miles and prospective new member Aussie Barry Quirk just moved up from Pattaya, Welcome Bazza. A few good rounds today by Guy Merrett with 69/39, Kieran Savage 70/38, Roger Mack 71/37 and Ian Mackay 76/34 and of course, the many tales of woe and misfortune by the rest of us in the clubhouse. The nearest to the pins went to Guy Merrett and a yet to be decided mystery winner. All the results will be finalised and produced on the presentation night at The Pub, where we will present trophies to the winners and enjoy a Bar-B-Que on Saturday night from 7pm. See you there.

Royal CM Mon 18 Aug Round 3

Once again we were lucky to have no rain during the round with very overcast conditions. They have done something to the fairways which has left them very patchy but while the ground was soft with little or no run at least it was not wet underfoot. The bunkers were Ok and the greens were dry and fast. The winners on the day were Ian Mackay with a 70/38, Scott Lumsden and Malcolm Tetley with a 72/36 each and Roger Mack with a 73/35. Kieran also gets an honourable mention with a 74/34 but other than that, the scores were pretty ordinary. The nearest the pin winners were Christian Friis and Roger Mack. Last round is at Green Valley and good luck to you all. The Presentation night is to be held at 'The Pub' on Sat 23 Aug at 7pm.

Maejo Round 2

No rain during the round today but conditions were very wet as it rained all the previous night at Maejo. Possibly the wettest conditions we have played at Lanna. No run and plenty of plugged balls. There were 25 in the competition today and the best round of the day was by Dao who showed us all how to play the game in these conditions with a Net 65 followed by Christian with a Net 69 and Jack with a Net 70. The nearest the pins were won by Keith Taylor and Jack Cooper but going along with last years theme and because he won one in round 1, Jack surrendered his win to the next nearest which was yours truely Garry Walker, Thanks Jack. Next round is at Royal ChiangMai at 9am with the tee-off in handicap order, low handicaps first.

Round 1 Lanna 11 Aug 08

Unfortunately conditions were just terrible, it rained all the preceeding weekend and continued with light rain on the day for the first 9 holes. We played lift, clean & place on all fairways but with absolutely no run it was a tough day and the scores reflected the true state of affairs. Strangely enough, even with all the rain the greens still did not hold and to make matters worse if you tried to go on by landing short of the green they plugged or just sat down. No excuses though, because at least one player played well on the day as she has been doing all month, well done Dao. The two nearest the pins were won by Jack Cooper and Shaun Stewart. All the scores are listed on the right although some may not want to see them. Still three rounds to go on three excellent courses so lets just hope for better weather. There were a few no shows on the day who said they were going to play and didn't, fortunately they were not in the Tournament, but if you have said you are going to play and change your mind please let us know as it does affect the draw. The draw for Thursday at Maejo is alphabetical by Christian Name. If you have not advised us that you are going to play and are not in the Tournament you can join in after the last group.
